Nature: The Evil Side August 4, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — Poppy @ 7:35 pm

I just happened to glance out the window about an hour ago. You know, just a quick glance. Not a long soap opera type gaze. Just a quickie. Something caught my eye. A little brown critter with two little ears. No, not the sweet little bunnies I saw yesterday. Quite the opposite. An armadillo. Uck. If dinosaurs are extinct why did God totally clean house and destroy these wretched beings.

I drew a quick sketch of the evil orc.

Side story…We saw one last weekend. Jack approached it with a golf club and shot gun. Not sure what the plan was but the little demon ran away so Jack didn’t have a chance to take a shot (with either weapon).

Back to today….Soooo, of course when I see the little beast in the yard I begin madly texting Jack ridiculous sayings such as “Which golf club is best for killing?” And “Oh my goodness its walking towards our bar, what do armadillos drink?”

ANOTHER SIDE NOTE: we have an outdoor bar, you should really come over and have a beverage sometime.

Okay, so here is where the story gets juicy. I then saw TWO of the little orcs so it was clearly high time to stop being a wall flower and take this issue into my own hands. So I walked out into the back yard. Yep, I sure did. I just walked on out there. They ran away. BUT THATS NOT THE END OF THE STORY. Oh no ma’am!

I walked over to our precious koi pond. Site of our engagement. Home to our 14 sweet little children (all named and deeply loved).

Man: Will you.. Woman: Oh, yes!

Dramatic pause in combination with dreamy look out of a window…

THERE WAS A RACCOON IN THE POND. I’m not kidding. It wasn’t doing the back stroke or the breast stroke…it was drowning. Well, I couldnt text this to Jack. I had to call him and scream wildly into the photo about the biggest raccoon ever known to man in our pond, clearly about to dine on our babies promptly before it reaches a watery death. The man gives me all this practical advice. More screaming from me. More calmness and practicality from the man. The phone call ended with me repeating, “I’m scared, I’m scared, I am going to get a neighbor.”

I took a photo of it....

The neighbors either weren’t home or weren’t answering. Have I mentioned I no longer shower consistently…could be a correlation here. ANyways, the story continues as I give up on the neighbors and go back to the yard to see the raccoon is not in the pond. He’s just gotten out, is shaking off when an ARMADILLO runs right in front of it. OH DEAR LORD its the Nature Channel in high-def! The raccoon hisses and chases the orc-like armadillo.

I have to call Jack again and explain that it just wasnt safe for me to be at home alone and Atlanta just didnt have these types of beasts and the mall would be a much safer place for me form now on.

More practical advice from man. I ignored it. Instead I threw horseshoes at the raccoon who was now trying to get back into the pond. They are now in the bottom of the pond. Screamed at it to go away. Threatened to kill it. And then went inside.

End of story.

Okay there were more details but at risk of you thinking I am complete crazy woman they have been omitted to protect my street cred.

Whew. I need a drink. With the Armadillo.

Morning Runner: walks in shade and runs in sun. August 3, 2010

How I felt..

This morning I had the opportunity to take a little run around the new neighborhood. A real simple little jog. RIght on Petite, right on Eunice and a right on Marsh View. You following? Marsh View is a nice little subdivision with a GORGEOUS view of the intracoastal. I saw 3 bunnies. Yes, the cute little kind I want to rub my nose against and put in an Easter basket. I was listening to some artist named “Various” on my iPod and just feelin like a million bucks. Well, the real interesting part about this quaint little collection of houses is that there are quite a few streets…all very alluring and begging for a runner to explore…but all are dead ends! Turns out there is only one way out of the neighborhood! dum dum dum… It was approximately 300 degrees at 8am in Jacksonville this morning. I thought I was going to explode like a give-a-thon thermometer. I ran past several sprinklers but decided that the city water could effect my unborn children and their ability to wear close-toed shoes due to their webbed feet, so I passed. Eventually I made it home where our sweet puppy greeted me with several jumps and spins. She really makes me feel like a celebrity. It doesn’t matter if I’ve been gone 5 days or 5 minutes, the level of excitement is always the same with her.

So, I know its been 9 months (yikes) since I last blogged. That will soon change. So hold onto your hats and get ready for pics of the new girlified house…BING.

On a plane. Using free WiFi. Watching The Time Traveler’s Wife. Could this moment in my life be more obscure.

Speaking of time travelling, I almost didn’t make this flight b/c of Atlanta just being Atlanta. If it wasn’t for God’s good grace and the Atlanta airport wrecking the nation’s travel plans today, I would be in tears at Hartsfield-Jackson. I tried to squeeze in my highlight appointment at the snobbish and exclusive Van Michael.  Van Miachel is of course located in the heart of Buckhead, meaning its in the heart of traffic. And I left in the heart of high traffic at 5:45 to make a 7:00 flight.  Do you  see me in this photo? Look hard, 3rd lane, grey SUV, I’m waving. Look hard. Harder. Yes, there I am!

I”m just babbling at this point but just know my point is I almost had a self-imposed stroke b/c I was stuck on I-85 with only a glimmer of hope. Thankfully I had a reassuring voice at the other end of my phone call that eased  me into the airport parking lot. The flight crew was also late bc of the aforementioned Atlanta Airport Havoc Reaking (sp?).  Let me just stop this endless babble and just admit I am ready for the next chapter in my life to start…….

Ladies…are we all aware of etsy.com? Are we all visiting it on a daily basis as a form of stress relief? Are we all finding the most incredibly cute items?!?!

Here are a few stockings that I intend to  replicate (will I get in trouble for saying that online?):

Felty Flowery Funness: What darling little flowers on this brightly colored stocking! Santa surely would not be able to resist this stylish sock! I am all about the use of colorful felt this season.

I didn’t know I was pregnant. October 23, 2009

I’m not.

But its an epidemic across America, coming to a town near you.  Here’s the gist: Woman gains weight over the course of 9 months. Extreme pain or feelings of really bad gas are optional. But end result is giving birth to an unexpected baby. Often called “Toilet babies.” While learning how to swim at a young age is important to those of us born on a peninsula, thats no way to celebrate a birthday.

So let’s get back to the main event, a woman, full term, thinks it’s just gas? No crib, no baby name, no baby shower with awkward games to prepare you for the world of motherhood? Just a trip to the bathroom and boom, you’re a mommy.  I can’t imagine the emotional turmoil. The physical pain. The logistics of bringing a baby home to a home that wasn’t expecting a baby! Explaining your new child to its father, your friends, family, explaining to your boss that you might need to take a few days off work for a “personal matter.”

test Photo suggested by one of  my avid readers; subjects of “IDKIWP” don’t know what this is. Its a pregnany test. Might have come in handy…

So one has an unexpected baby. One gets through all the aforementioned trauma. And then enters TLC. Ready to share your story with the world. TLC has a show solely devoted to the topic. And I can’t stop watching! It’s fascinating. Enthralling.

Setting aside the sarcasm for a moment, my heart really does go out to these families. The moms whose lives will never be the same, the children who might find out one day that they were not planned for, the other family members and friends who are effected by this new direction in life.  Babies are blessings. Hand down. NO matter whether they are planned or unplanned. ALthough I told myself I would not over-spiritualize this blog, I can’t separate the topic of God’s perfect will and children. Nothing cannot happen outside of God’s perfect plan. I am a strong believer that God has a perfectly planned storyline for our lives and there is no such thing as chance or accident. Despite the mystery that surrounds what appears to be “accidental births,” these babies are in God’s hands. See the following:

  1. Proverbs 16:9 “In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.”
  2. Proverbs 19:21 “Many ar the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.”
  3. Proverbs 21:30 “There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the Lord.”

God’s ways are not our ways. But His ways are good. Babies are good.

I’d like to get your feedback on possible new names for the show. We’ll start with my suggestion: “I didn’t know I was this out-of-tune with my body.”

Stay tuned for more commentary on TLC shows and the power of lip gloss.
